Sulphur Springs Police and Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office activity from 5:30 a.m. Jan. 20 through 5:30 a.m. Jan. 24, 2023 included the following: Friday

Dustin James Thomas reported to the sheriff ’s office lobby at 6:36 p.m. Jan. 20, in keeping with a judge’s order to serve a weekend commitment in jail. A deputy escorted the 21-year-old Brashear man into the county jail and booked him in on the assault causing bodily injury charge, according to offense reports Criminal mischief resulting in damage to blinds at a Church Street address was reported Jan. 20 to police.

Burglary of a building resulting in theft of a drill and charger was reported to have occurred Jan. 20 at a South League Street address, police noted in arrest reports.

Carrie Elizabeth Vaughan was taken into custody at her Sulphur Springs address and served at 11:42 a.m. with a felony warrant for violation of probation on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Bond was recommended to be set at $150,000 on the charge.

Donnie Merle Martin II was arrested at 10:12 p.m. on County Road 2315 on a Class B misdemeanor family violence assault causing bodily injury charge and a resisting arrest, search or transport charge. He was alleged to have struck his girlfriend in the face while she was in the shower, causing bruising on one eye. He claimed they were play fighting and things got out of hand. He allegedly resisted when deputies tried to take him into custody; a Taser was deployed more than once with no effect on the 40-year-old Sulphur Springs man. After several attempts, deputies were able to get him to comply. While being escorted out the front door, Martin took off running. A deputy assisted him to the ground with the “least amount of force possible. When additional deputies arrived, Martin was finally taken into custody, deputies Isaac Foley and Drew Fisher alleged in arrest reports.

Angel Alfonso Valle was transported from Starr County jail to Hopkins County jail, where he was booked in at 6 p.m. Jan. 20 on warrants for possession of 4 ounces or more but less than 5 pounds of marijuana and possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance. The 25-year-old Grand Prairie man’s bond was set at $10,000 on the felony marijuana charge and $25,000 on the third-degree felony controlled substance charge, according to arrest reports.

Jimmy Shane Callahan was stopped on State Highway 154 for a traffic violation and found to have a meth pipe and baggy with just over the 3 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine in his vehicle. The 44-year-old man was booked into jail at 7:50 p.m. Jan. 20 for possession of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, according to arrest reports.

Saturday

Deputies responded to a disturbance on County Road 2346 at 9:10 p.m. Jan. 21. They found Angie Alejandra Zepeda of Pickton walking down the road. She appeared to the deputies to be intoxicated and was taken into custody for public intoxication, according to arrest reports.

Stephen Louis Gagnon of Commerce was taken into custody at 7:51 p.m. for public intoxication following a disturbance complaint at a West Industrial Drive business. The 37-year-old reportedly had red, glassy, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, and an alcohol odor was smelled on him as well, according to police reports.

Sunday

Theft of more than $100 worth of merchandise on more than one occasion over the course of the last month was reported to police Jan. 22, according offense reports.

Maria Z. Gonzalez Buenrostro was arrested at 10:05 a.m. for no driver’s license, following a traffic stop on Loop 301 for an expired registration. The 30-year-old Sulphur Springs woman owed $430.30 on the Class C misdemeanor charge, police noted in arrest reports.

Gage Austin Lewendt was arrested on Main Street at 2:21 a.m. by deputies on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The 24-year-old Sulphur Springs man was reportedly stopped for reckless driving, and a white, powdery substance could be seen on the console and passenger’s seat.

Monday

Sulphur Springs Police located 30-year-old Jonathan Hutch Bills of Sulphur Springs at his place of work and served him with a Class B misdemeanor warrant for bond forfeiture on a theft of property valued at $100 or ore but less than $750 charge at 10:21 p.m. Jan. 23. Bond was recommended to be set at $3,000, according to arrest reports.

Officers were made aware a 40-year-old Paris man would likely be at an East Industrial Drive business address Monday evening. Police located Ralph Thurson Oneal and took him into custody at 7:14 p.m. Jan. 23, 2023, on Lamar County warrants for a felony unauthorized absence from a community or correctional facility and violation of probation on a third or more driving while intoxicated acted offense. He was to be held without bond on both charges for Lamar County, according to arrest reports.

Deputies arrested three men in connection with a rural home burglary alleged to have occurred on Jan. 19, 2023, at a County Road 3534 residence, according to the sheriff. Adrian Jamaal Godbolt was stopped and arrested Jan. 20 on a third-degree felony warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon charge, two felony theft of a firearm warrants and one no driver’s license warrant; his bond was recommended to be set at $50,000 on the unlawful possession charge, $20,000 each on the theft charges and the fee owed on the driver’s license charge was set at $457.60, according arrest reports. Timothy Dale Moody of Cooper was taken into custody at 4:33 p.m. Jan. 22 at his Cooper address on an engaging in organized criminal activity- burglary of a habitation warrant; the 38-year-old’s bond was recommended to be set at $75,000 on the charge, according to arrest reports. Christopher Lee Skeen Jr. was also arrested at the Cooper address at 4:33 p.m. Jan. 22 on a felony warrant for engaging in organized criminal activity-burglary of a habitation; the 22-year-old Sulphur Springs man’s bond was also recommended to be set at $75,000 on the criminal activity charge.

Tuesday

Cameron Lynn Bain was arrested at 1:23 a.m. Jan. 24 on State Highway 19 south at Sulphur Springs city limits for possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license invalid, failure to drive in a single lane and displaying a fictitious, altered or obscured license plate. Deputies stopped the man for the the traffic violations, and reported finding a hypodermic syringe and other drug paraphernalia in his vehicle. The man allegedly admitted to having needles from narcotics usage in the vehicle. He was arrested on all four Class C misdemeanor charges, deputies noted in arrest reports.

Dispatchers answered 269 non-emergency calls and 22 emergency calls; deputies responded to 94 calls for service, made 49 traffic stops, and filed offense reports for theft of a firearm and theft of livestock; and four people were booked into and six people were released from the county jail, which held 201 inmates, during the 24-hour period ending at 5:30 a.m. Jan. 24, 2023.
