The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and included:

Drug-related arrests

• Creston Weatherall, 31, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Friday 7:53 a.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount less than one gram in a drug free zone as well as Sulphur Springs PD warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility, expired registration, and no driver’s license. A Sulphur Springs officer was reportedly on patrol and observed Weatherall walking. The officer checked Weatherall through communications and the above warrants were reportedly confirmed. The officer made contact with Weatherall and conducted a pat down and asked for consent to search Weatherall’s pockets. Consent was allegedly granted and the officer removed a cigar package from Weatherall’s pocket. Located inside the package, the officer allegedly located a baggie containing a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine. Weatherall was placed into custody and transported to the jail. Bond was set at $11,470.30

• A homeless/Sulphur Springs woman, 29, was arrested Sunday 2:33 p.m. on a charge of public intoxication and a Palo Pinto County warrant for resisting arrest, search or transport. Deputies were reportedly dispatched to the area of county road 4711 in regards to a subject allegedly walking around and screaming. The deputies made contact with the woman who was reportedly shouting and acting hysterical in the roadway. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was allegedly emitting from the subjects’s person. The female allegedly admitted to consuming a substantial amount of alcohol during the night and also alleged that she had been intoxicated out on the roadway. The deputies reportedly determined that the female was a danger to herself and a records check allegedly showed the female to also have a warrant for her arrest which was confirmed through Palo Pinto County. The female subject was placed into custody and transported to the jail for booking. Bond was set at $5,010 for the warrant.

• An Allen man, 21, and an Allen woman, 27, were arrested Monday 10:32 p.m. on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. A traffic stop was conducted by Hopkins county deputies after the driver failed to stop at a designated stop sign. Upon making contact, the driver, the female subject, was allegedly acting nervous and reportedly denied deputies consent to search the vehicle. The K9 deputy deployed their narcotics detection K-9, who allegedly gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics inside the vehicle. The deputies reportedly located a small plastic vial with a crystal-like residue that allegedly field tested positive for methamphetamine. The female subject initially claimed possession but the male subject then stated it was his. Both occupants were taken into custody and transported to the jail. Bond was not set.

Alcohol related arrests

• A Gainesville man, 40, was arrested Sunday 2:59 a.m. on a charge of public intoxication. A Hopkins county deputy reportedly received a call for service regarding a male subject walking in the area of CR 4711 on SH 11 West, allegedly screaming and crossing through private property near occupied dwellings and vehicles. The deputy located the male walking on the eastbound should of SH 11, on the incorrect side of the road. The male allegedly appeared to be highly intoxicated and detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the male’s person. The male was also allegedly staggering around as he walked and reportedly stepped away from the deputy and into the eastbound lane of vehicle travel. The deputy detained the male in handcuffs to gain temporary control while speaking with the man. The man reportedly stated that he had been drinking all day and was allegedly looking for his girlfriend. The deputy reportedly asked the man if he considered walking on the highway as dangerous to himself and the man allegedly said ‘yes’. The deputy advised the male that he was in custody for public intoxication and secured the man into the rear seat of the patrol unit for transport to the jail. The deputy booked the male into the jail and during booking, the man was placed into a v-cell due to allegedly banging his head against the jail vestibule window and attempting to intimidate another inmate.

Bond was not set. • Dustin Davis, 27, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Saturday 8:29 p.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicate with a child passenger under the age of 15 years old and a charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon. Deputies reportedly received a third party phone call from an off duty DPS Trooper at an establishment in Sulphur Springs. The call allegedly pertained to a possibly intoxicated individual getting into a vehicle with a child and about to leave the establishment. While deputies were en route, communications then advised of a reckless driver westbound on I-30 in which the vehicle reportedly matched the description the DPS trooper provided. The vehicle was allegedly observed by the caller failing to maintain a single lane of traffic and possibly speeding. The deputies en route attempted to intercept the vehicle and Cumby Police Department was notified. While in route, the original caller reportedly lost sight of the vehicle and a second caller contacted communications in regards to the vehicle being observed taking the exit near the westbound rest area. A Cumby Police officer reportedly intercepted the vehicle on the North Service Road while deputies remained in route. The officer observed the vehicle failing to maintain a single lane and due to the traffic violation as well as concern for the safety of the child, a traffic stop was conducted. The Cumby officer and Hopkins County deputies made contact with the driver and reportedly observed a child in a car seat in the backseat. During conversation, deputies allegedly detected a moderate odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Davis’ person along with other signs of intoxication. Davis allegedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages at the establishment where he was observed by the off duty DPS trooper. Davis reportedly agreed to perform the standard field sobriety tests and allegedly displayed more than one clue of being intoxicated. Davis was placed into custody and the on call CPS worker was reportedly contacted in regards to the child. Davis was read the statutory warning and consented to a breath specimen. A handgun was allegedly observed in the vehicle which was seized by deputies. CPS arrived on scene and release the child to their grandparents who also arrived on scene. Bond was set at $7,000.

• An Olathe, Kan. man, 24, was arrested Sunday 3:39 p.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated, first offense. The man was reportedly stopped by DPS officer for driving on the wrong side of the road against opposing traffic. The man was identified and an odor of alcohol was allegedly detected inside the vehicle. When the driver exited the vehicle, the odor of alcohol was also reportedly detected on his breath. The driver reportedly did the standard field sobriety tests voluntarily and was found to be intoxicated. The driver was arrested and seven empty beer bottles were allegedly found in the vehicle. The driver reportedly admitted to drinking two beers and voluntarily gave a blood specimen. The driver was transported to the jail and released to staff without incident. Bond was set at $1,000.

Warrants, transfers and other activity

• Pernell Lewis, 47, of Pittsburg, Texas was arrested Saturday 2:03 p.m. on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Hopkins County deputies reportedly observed a male subject walking on the shoulder of I-30 and conducted a welfare check on the subject identified as Lewis. During the conversation, it was determined that Lewis’ vehicle was located at the 142 mm exit ramp and Lewis was walking westbound, the opposite direction. Lewis allegedly requested a courtesy ride from law enforcement and was asked by deputies if there were any weapons in the backpack that he was carrying. Lewis allegedly gave deceptive responses and indirect answers to deputies questions. Lewis was then reportedly asked if he had been in any trouble before or had felony convictions which could be the reason he was giving deceptive answers about possible weapons. Lewis reportedly advised that he did have a criminal history and during a records check, it was allegedly determined that Lewis had felony arrests and narcotics related arrests as well as felony convictions as recent as 2013. Deputies then asked for consent to search Lewis’ backpack and Lewis reportedly denied consent. A K9 officer was requested to the scene and upon arrival, allegedly gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics on the backpack. Deputies then conducted a probable cause search, reportedly locating a handgun in the backpack. Lewis was placed into custody and transported to the jail for booking. Bond was set at $30,000.

• A Sulphur Springs woman, 38, was arrested Friday 6:00 p.m. on a Hopkins cOunty warrant for a charge of driving while intoxicated, second offense with a mandatory weekend commitment. The woman reportedly arrived at the sheriff ’s office and turned herself in for the above offense. Bond was not set.

• Clinton Williams, 38, of Mt. Vernon was transported from the Titus County Jail to the Hopkins County jail Friday on Hopkins County warrants for insufficient bond on charges of burglary of a habitation and possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount between one and four grams. Bond was set at $600,000 cash or surety.

• A Sulphur Springs man, 30, was arrested Saturday 3:56 p.m. on a charge of making a terroristic threat to a family or household member. Communications reportedly advised deputies to be en route to an address in regards to a fight between the caller’s husband and son. Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with a male subject and his father who were outside the residence. The male subject advised that he and his father were allegedly having a verbal argument and no threats were made. After speaking with the father, deputies learned that the male subject had allegedly made threats of killing family members of the household he resides with. Deputies reportedly collected statements from other family members on scene and placed the male subject into custody for transport to the jail. An arrest report was completed and the subject was booked into the jail without further contact. Bond was set at $2,000.

• A New Boston, Texas man, 36, was arrested Monday 8:54 p.m. on a Titus County warrant for a charge of violating a protective order twice within 12 months. An officer was reportedly conducting a traffic stop and ran the male’s identifying information through dispatch. The subject reportedly had an active warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody for transport to the jail. Bond was set at $10,000.

• Maximiliano Gomez, 53, of Winnsboro was transported from the Harrison county jail to Hopkins County Monday 9:18 a.m. on a Hopkins county warrant for a felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age in the vehicle. Bond was denied.
