The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and included:

Drug-related arrests

■ Jordan McKay, 27; Christopher Huddleston, 42; and Margaret Caldwell, 43, of Sulphur Springs, were arrested Monday 2:56 a.m. on charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount less than or equal to one gram. After clearing from a previous call for a suspicious vehicle in the area of County road 4786, a Hopkins County deputy reportedly observed an additional vehicle sitting stationary with it’s lights on at the intersection of county road 4784. After observing the vehicle sitting at the intersection and finding the time in which the vehicle was in the area suspicious, the deputy approached the vehicle and initiating their overhead emergency lights. Upon exiting their patrol unit, the deputy observed the vehicle to be occupied by three subjects, who were all sweating, attempting to avoid eye contact and could not advise of a reason to be in the area. Reportedly, none of the occupants advised that they lived around the area. While asking for identification, the deputy allegedly observed a used hypodermic syringe inside the center console as the driver lifted it up. The deputy reportedly advised the subjects to exit the vehicle, starting with the front seat passenger, McKay, who was detained in handcuffs. Upon asking Caldwell to exit the rear passenger area, the deputy allegedly observed a clear plastic baggie of suspected methamphetamine fall to the ground. Caldwell was also secured into handcuffs. The driver, Huddleston, was asked to exit the vehicle next and the deputy reportedly observed a pipe of the kind commonly used to smoke marijuana. Huddleston was then secured into handcuffs. Additional deputies arrived on scene to assist with the investigation. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and other items of drug paraphernalia were allegedly located, including a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamines, an additional hypodermic syringe, an open bag of unused syringes, and rolling papers commonly used for smoking marijuana. The deputy completed the search of the vehicle and all subjects persons and did not locate any additional con traband. All three subjects were read the Miranda warning and reportedly advised that they understood their rights. All three allegedly consented to speak with the deputies and denied ownership of the contraband. One of the subjects alleged that they were in the area smoking methamphetamine prior to the deputy making contact with them. All three were placed into custody. A Sergeant remained on scene to conduct the inventory and impound while the subjects were transported to the jail. Bond was set at $10,000 for all three subjects.

■ Micah Mothershed, 19, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Monday 2:49 p.m. on charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance, possession of marijuana in an amount between four ounces and five pounds and possession of a penalty group two controlled substance in an amount between four and four hundred grams. A Hopkins County Constable was reportedly working a writ of possession cause versus Mothershed. Upon arriving at the scene, the constable knocked on the door and when it was opened, made contact with Mothershed and two other subjects. For officer safety, a pat down was performed on all three subjects. Another constable was called for cover. After the additional constable arrived, the first officer on scene entered the house to locate a fourth subject who was allegedly passed out in a back bedroom. Upon entering the bedroom, the Constable shouted at the man multiple times to wake up. When the man woke up, he was placed in handcuffs and removed from the house. While in the bedroom, the Constable allegedly observed multiple needles and drugs strewn around the room. After all four subjects were secured, a Hopkins county deputy assisted the constable in retrieving eight ounces of marijuana along with multiple vape pens. Bond was not set as of press day.

■ Preslie Lappin, 18, and a Sulphur Springs man, 17 were arrested Monday 2:49 p.m. on charges of possession of marijuana in an amount between four ounces and five pounds and possession of a penalty group two controlled substance in an amount between four and four hundred grams. A Hopkins County Constable was reportedly working a writ of possession cause versus Micah Mothershed. Upon arriving at the scene, the constable knocked on the door and when it was opened, made contact with Mothershed, Lappin and a male subject. For officer safety, a pat down was conducted on all three subjects. Another constable was called for cover. After the additional constable arrived, the first officer on scene entered the house to locate a fourth subject, the 17 year old male, who was allegedly passed out in a back bedroom. Upon entering the bedroom, the Constable shouted at the man multiple times to wake up. When the man woke up, he was placed in handcuffs and removed from the house. While in the bedroom, the Constable allegedly observed multiple needles and drugs strewn around the room. After all four subjects were secured, a Hopkins county deputy assisted the constable in retrieving eight ounces of marijuana along with multiple vape pens. Bond was not set as of press day.

■ A Sulphur Springs man, 17, was arrested Monday 2:49 p.m. on charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance, possession of marijuana in an amount between four ounces and five pounds, possession of a penalty group two controlled substance in an amount between four and four hundred grams and a warrant for no driver’s license, second offense. The man was on scene during a writ of possession being served for Mothershed. (See above) For officer safety, a pat down was performed on all three subjects. A Terry pat down was conducted for weapons on the male due to the fact that he kept reaching into his pockets. The constable allegedly located a small baggie of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine hanging out of the male’s pocket and detained the male in handcuffs. Bond was not set as of press day.

Alcoholrelated arrests

■ A Sulphur Springs man, 26, was arrested Saturday 1:24 a.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated. The man was reportedly observed speeding in the 1300 block of Main Street by a Sulphur Springs officer. The office made contact with the driver and allegedly observed the man to have blood shot eyes and an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The man reportedly performed and failed the standardized field sobriety tests. The officer felt that the male failed to possess the minimum mental or physical faculties in order to operate a vehicle safely. The man was taken into custody, read the statutory warning and agreed to provide a blood specimen. The man was transported to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital for the blood draw then to the jail for book in. Bond was set at $1,000.

■ A Deport, Texas woman, 28, was arrested Saturday 2:04 a.m. on charges of driving while intoxicated with open containers in the vehicle and unlawful carrying of a weapon. A Hopkins County deputy reportedly observed a vehicle parked on the fog line north of Joe Bob’s on FM 71 east. The deputy allegedly observed a person walking away from the vehicle through the ditch as well as a male subject inside the vehicle. The male occupant reportedly explained that his wife, the person walking in the ditch, was walking away due to a verbal altercation. An open container of an alcoholic beverage was allegedly observed in plain view of the officer. The male reportedly admitted to a firearm being inside the vehicle. The male exited the vehicle and contacted the woman via phone to return to the scene. The woman reportedly returned and admitted to driving the vehicle to the location. Deputies reportedly conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, locating more than one open container of alcoholic beverages as well as a handgun. The woman and the male subject both admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and the woman claimed ownership of the firearm. The deputy administered the standard field sobriety tests to both subjects and observed several clues that they were intoxicated. Both subjects were placed in custody. A blood specimen was obtained from the woman who was booked in on the above charges. Bond was set at $2,000.

■ A Deport, Texas man, 23, was arrested Saturday 2:04 a.m. on a charge of public intoxication. A Hopkins County deputy reportedly observed a vehicle parked on the fog line north of Joe Bob’s on 71E. The deputy allegedly observed a person walking away from the vehicle through the ditch as well as a male subject inside the vehicle. The male occupant reportedly explained that his wife, the person walking in the ditch, was walking away due to a verbal altercation. ■ A Sulphur Springs man, 26, was arrested Sunday 1:54 a.m. on a charge of public intoxication. The man was reportedly observed by a Sulphur Springs officer walking in the area of 300 Main Street and seemed to be unsteady on his feet. The officer made contact and allegedly detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The male was administered the standardized field sobriety tests and reportedly failed. The officer allegedly felt that the man was a danger to himself and others. The man was taken into custody and transported to the jail. Bond was not set.

Warrants, transfers and other activity

■ Rashad Hall, 30, of Commerce was arrested Saturday 3:33 a.m. on charges of evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle and driving while license is invalid with previous convictions. A Sulphur Springs officer reportedly conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to yield the right of way and failed to stop at a designated stop sign. Hall was reportedly observed failing to yield the right of way and the officer pursued the vehicle. The vehicle reportedly crashed at the intersection of Putman and Como Street and Hall allegedly fled on foot. The officer reportedly made contact with Hall and placed him into custody. Hall was secured into handcuffs and seated in a patrol unit for transport to the jail. Bond was set at $11,000.

■ Robert Hawkins, Jr., 36, of Sulphur Springs was arrested 4:16 p.m. on Hopkins County warrants for bond forfeiture on two charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance, burglary of a habitation. Hawkins also received on site charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance and tampering or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair. Communications reportedly advised officers of a disturbance taking place on County Road 4708 in which a male stated that he was allegedly in possession of a firearm. Deputies checked in route to the residence and were reportedly informed by officers that the man had left as a passenger in a vehicle. Deputies allegedly knew the man, Robert Hawkins, had active warrants out of the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office. A Deputy located the vehicle traveling on FM 2285 and attempted a traffic stop in which the vehicle allegedly failed to stop. The deputy reportedly observed a small baggie with a white substance exit the vehicle just north of Hillcrest Road on Fm 2285. The driver of the vehicle allegedly continued disregarding the emergency lights and sirens of the deputy’s vehicle, ran the blinking red light at Hillcrest and Airport Road and continued east on Airport Road to Church Street. The pursuit turned north on Church Street to Loop 301, then south on Loop 301 at speed up to 100 mph before coming to an end at Loop 301 and Jefferson Street. Deputies conducted a high risk stop on the vehicle with the assistance of DPS and SSPD. The driver and Hawkins were taken into custody and transported to the jail. A wrecker service took possession of the vehicle. The contraband was located on FM 2285 and was allegedly a baggie containing methamphetamine. Deputies advised the driver and Hawkins of their rights via Miranda warning after which both denied discarding the contraband from the vehicle. Hawkins was booked into jail on the above charges. Bond was set at $360,000.

■ Narce Garcia, 34, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Saturday 4:16 a.m. on charges of evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, possession of a penalty group one controlled substance and tampering or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair. Communications reportedly advised officers of a disturbance taking place on County Road 4708 in which a male stated that he was allegedly in possession of a firearm. ■ Nicholas Reynolds, 32, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Tuesday 12:21 a.m. on a Hopkins county warrant for possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount less than one gram. Reynolds was reportedly observed walking in the 300 block of Calvert Street. Deputies knew Reynolds to allegedly have an active warrant for his arrest and made contact where communications had confirmed him to be. Reynolds was reportedly secured in handcuffs and transported to the jail and booked in. Bond was set at $10,000 cash.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 841 non-emergency phone calls, 287 calls for service and 194 emergency calls. From 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Friday officers filed 17 offenses and conducted one special patrol, two funeral escorts and 35 traffic stops. 13 people were booked in and 10 people were released from the Hopkins County Jail which held 191 inmates as of 5:30 a.m Tuesday.
