The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and included:

Drug-related arrests

• Christopher Williams, 32, of Wills Point, was arrested Friday 11:04 a.m. on charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance and failure to identify by fugitive intent of giving false information as well as an Austin Parole Division warrant for a charge of violation of parole. A Sulphur Springs police officer reportedly conducted a traffic stop for expired registration and allegedly observed Williams to be displaying signs of nervousness. When officers asked for his name, Williams allegedly gave a false name and birth date. Williams later reportedly admitted to giving a false name due to knowing about a warrant for his arrest. The officer reportedly asked Williams to exit the vehicle and for consent to search. Consent was allegedly granted and a male passenger was also made to exit the vehicle. The passenger was reportedly showing signs of nervousness as well. The officer began the search and allegedly located a clear plastic baggie of methamphetamine in one of the center cupholders. A second baggie of methamphetamine was reportedly located next to the hinge of the trunk. Miscellaneous drug paraphernalia was also allegedly located throughout the vehicle. Williams correct name was checked through dispatch and the warrant was reportedly confirmed. Williams was taken into custody and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $12,000.

• Kevin Jones, 36, of Wills Point was arrested Friday 11:04 a.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount greater than or equal to one gram in a drug free zone as well as a Hunt County warrant for a probation violation. Jones was the passenger of a vehicle pulled over for a traffic violation. Upon conducting the stop, the officer reportedly observed signs of nervousness displayed by the driver and Jones. A consent search was conducted of the vehicle and the officer allegedly located two baggies of suspected methamphetamine. A check through dispatch reportedly confirmed the above warrant and Jones was taken into custody. Bond was set at $10,000.

• Gregory Blackwell, 20, of Greenville was arrested Saturday 11:04 p.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group 1-A in an amount less than 20 units. Blackwell was reportedly observed by a Hopkins County Deputy traveling northbound on FM 275 with defective license plate lights. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the occupants who were allegedly displaying nervous behavior. The driver allegedly had slightly shaking hands and a quiver in his voice while speaking with the deputy. The passenger, Blackwell, reportedly appeared to be avoiding eye contact. Allegedly due to their observations, the deputy requested consent to search the vehicle. The driver reportedly gave consent to the search and the deputy had the occupants exit the vehicle separately. The driver was asked for consent to search his person, no contraband was located during the search. Blackwell was then asked to exit the vehicle and a search was conducted of his pockets. During the search, the deputy allegedly located Blackwell’s wallet on the front passenger seat. Inside the wallet, the deputy reportedly located a small piece of tin foil folded up inside one of the card pockets. Inside the tin foil, the deputy allegedly observed two pink squares which appeared to be acid, LSD, units. The deputy reportedly asked Blackwell if it was in fact LSD, and Blackwell allegedly confirmed that it was. The contraband was secured in the patrol unit and the deputy completed their search of the vehicle, finding no additional narcotics. Blackwell was advised of his rights. Blackwell advised the officer that he knew his rights and consented to speak with the officer. Blackwell reportedly claimed ownership of the LSD and was secured in the rear seat of the patrol unit. The driver was released with the vehicle and the deputy cleared from the scene. Bond was set at $5,000.

• A Tupelo, Miss. man, 25, was arrested Saturday 7:41 p.m. on charges of possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon. The man was reportedly observed by a Texas DPS officer to be traveling in the left lane without passing on IH 30 and not displaying a front license plate. Upon contact the officer allegedly detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The man reportedly admitted to being in possession of half an ounce of marijuana and a loaded handgun. A probable cause search allegedly revealed the marijuana in the front passenger seat and the handgun was located in the driver’s door panel. The man was placed under arrest and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $3,000.

• Jovan Brandon, 37, of De Soto, and De-Andre Scott, 28, of Lancaster, were arrested Sunday 4:47 p.m. on charges of possession of over four ounces but less than five pounds of marijuana and unlawful carrying of a weapon. A Cumby Police officer reportedly observed a vehicle traveling westbound on I 30 without a front license plate. The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as De-Andre Scott and the passenger as Jovan Brandon. Scott was reportedly asked to locate his proof of insurance and upon opening the glove compartment, the officer observed a baggie containing burnt, hand rolled cigarillos with suspected marijuana. The officer initiated a probable cause search of the vehicle and allegedly located two pounds and seven ounces of marijuana as well as two handguns and an AR style rifle. Scott and Jovan were both taken into custody. Bond was set at $7,000 for both men.

Alcoholrelated arrests

• A Sulphur Springs man, 31, was arrested Friday 11:17 p.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated with an open container in the vehicle. A Sulphur Springs police officer reportedly conducted a traffic stop and upon making contact, observed the driver allegedly displaying signs of intoxication. The driver reportedly had glassy eyes, delayed speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage was allegedly emitting from his breath. The officer reportedly conducted the standardized field sobriety tests and made the probable cause determination that the man was operating a motor vehicle in a public place while intoxicated. The man was placed into handcuffs and secured in a patrol unit. The man was read the DIC-24 form and allegedly denied consent for the taking of a blood specimen. Officers reportedly obtained a blood search warrant and the man was transported to the hospital where his blood was taken. The man was transported back to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $1,000.

Warrants, Transfers and other activity

• Jorge Roque-Hernandez, 24, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Sunday 12:45 a.m. on a charge of assault or family violence by impeding breath or circulation. Deputies were advised by dispatch to be en route to a location in regards to an active disturbance. The caller reportedly advised that she was at a neighbors house and had left her residence after being assaulted by her boyfriend. The caller also stated that she was reportedly having trouble breathing. One of the deputies went to the caller’s residence to make contact with Roque-Hernandez while another went to make contact with the caller. Upon arrival, the victim advised that her boyfriend had become upset due to some messages on her phone and was angry. The victim claimed that Roque-Hernandez became assaultive, throwing the phone at her and choking her. The victim reportedly stated that Roque-Hernandez had also thrown her to the floor and pushed her head against the floor. The victim also alleges that when she had sat up and asked Roque-Hernandez to stop assaulting her, he became angry and choked her again. The victim reportedly stated that Roque-Hernandez let her up and began demanding the password to her phone. The victim advised that she then attempted to leave the house and Roque-Hernandez would not allow her to leave, blocking the doorway and pushing her back inside. The victim advised that she gave Roque-Hernandez the password then ran out the back door of the residence to the neighbor’s house to call 911. While speaking with the victim, the deputy reportedly observed several red marks on her chest, face and neck which were consistent with her account of events. The deputy who had made contact with Roque-Hernandez advised that he had him detained. Photographs were taken of the victim and a Voluntary Written Statement was obtained. The victim was reportedly transported back to the residence and was provided with a notice to victims of family violence. Roque-Hernandez was transported to the jail and booked on the above charge. Bond was set at $20,000.

• Luke Shrum, 28, of Winnsboro was arrested Saturday 11:27 p.m. on four Wood county warrants for charges of violation of probation for possession of marijuana, possession of a penalty group four controlled substance in an amount less than 28 grams, violation of probation for duty on striking fixture or highway landscaping $200 or more, and violation of probation on a charge of driving while license is invalid with previous convictions. Shrum was reportedly observed by a Hopkins County deputy traveling south on Broadway Street bearing a fictitious license plate. The deputy made contact with Shrum who was the driver of the vehicle. An open container of an alcoholic beverage was allegedly observed to be in plain view and Shrum was asked to exit the vehicle. A records check reportedly showed the above warrants and Shrum was detained in handcuffs. Confirmation was allegedly received for the warrants and Shrum was transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $20,000.

• Mary Denton, 51, of Bridgeport, Texas was arrested Saturday 1:48 p.m. on a charge of aggravated assault of a family member with a deadly weapon. Deputies reportedly responded to a call for a disturbance. After arriving at the location, the deputies allegedly learned that Denton had begun destroying property with a golf club after becoming involved in a verbal dispute. The victim reportedly went into the room at which time Denton allegedly swung the golf club at them in an attempt to strike the victim with the club. The victim was reportedly able to block the swing with a mop handle and was not struck. Denton was placed under arrest and transported to the jail without further incident. Bond was set at $40,000.

• A Sulphur Springs man, 34, was arrested Monday 11:05 p.m. on a charge of assault causing bodily injury of a family member. A Sulphur Springs officer was dispatched to a residence in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officer reportedly made contact with a juvenile that appeared to be upset and was crying. The officer made contact with the arrested subject and the victim and separated them. The victim alleged that the male subject had struck her. The officer reportedly observed an injury to the victim and believed that further violence would occur if action was not taken. The male subject was taken into custody and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was not set as of press day.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 778 non-emergency phone calls, 245 calls for service and 171 emergency calls. From 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Friday officers filed four offenses and conducted zero special patrols, zero funeral escorts and 73 traffic stops. 24 people were booked in and 20 people were released from the Hopkins County Jail which held 185 inmates as of 5:30 a.m Tuesday.
