The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and included:

Drug-related arrests

• Juan Quiroz, 26, of Fort Worth, was arrested Saturday 8:19 a.m. on charges of possession of a penalty group two controlled substance in an amount greater than two grams and less than four grams, unlawful carrying of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia. Quiroz was reportedly stopped by a Texas DPS officer for no front license plate on IH 30. Upon contact with Quiroz, the officer allegedly detected the odor of fresh marijuana coming from the vehicle. Quiroz reportedly admitted to being in possession of marijuana and THC oil. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and the officer allegedly located two glass jars containing THC wax and an infuser containing THC wax residue. The officer also reportedly located a firearm in the glove box within close proximity to the contraband. Quiroz was placed under arrest for the above listed charges. The vehicle was releases to a tow service while Quiroz was transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $12,000.

• Micheal Harvey, 35, of Ore City, Texas was arrested Saturday 7:46 p.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount greater than or equal to four grams. Deputies reportedly conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration. During the course of the investigation, Harvey allegedly had conflicting stories and had visibly shaking hands. After asking Harvey for consent to conduct a search, consent was denied. The officer requested a K-9 officer to be in route to the scene. The K-9 allegedly alerted positive to the vehicle and during a probable cause search, the deputies reportedly located a clear baggie containing a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine along with a glass pipe. Harvey was placed into custody and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $30,000.

• Dustin Caldwell, 40, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Saturday 3:07 p.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance in an amount less than one gram in a drug free zone. Sulphur Springs officers reportedly observed a vehicle with an expired registration sticker and conducted a traffic stop. Inside the vehicle were the driver who was identified as Caldwell and two juvenile passengers. Caldwell was allegedly acting extremely nervous and could not answer the basic questions. Caldwell was reportedly not truthful about his criminal history and denied consent for a search of the vehicle. A K-9 unit was contacted and arrived a short time late to conduct a free air search. The K-9 handler reportedly advised there was a positive alert on the vehicle, giving probable cause to search it. During the probable cause search, the officers allegedly located a plastic vial containing less than one gram of methamphetamine and unknown pills inside a backpack belonging to Caldwell. Caldwell was placed into handcuffs and secured in a patrol unit. The vehicle and juvenile passengers were released to another adult. Bond was set at $10,000.

• Darrick Ransom, 48, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Saturday 9:23 a.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance. Ransom was reportedly observed by a Sulphur Springs officer walking on the wrong side of the roadway. The officer made contact with Ransom and began conversation. Ransom allegedly advised that he lived at the trailer park on Main and was coming back from the store, but was off the normal path that he would have used. During a pat down for officer safety, Ransom reportedly became extremely nervous and consented to the search of his person. During the search, the officer allegedly located a straw believed to be used for narcotics in his back pocket, and a cigarette package was found in his front pocket. The cigarette pack reportedly contained a small baggie that contained suspected methamphetamine. Ransom was placed into custody and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $5,000.

• Jessica Farrow, 28, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Sunday 3:21 p.m. was arrested on charges of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance and possession of a penalty group three controlled substance in a drug free zone. Officers were reportedly dispatched to Brookshire’s in Sulphur Springs in reference to a welfare check. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Farrow and EMS checked her vitals while officers conducted a probable cause search of her vehicle due to an odor coming from inside. During the search, officers allegedly located contraband. An EMS attendant came to officers and allegedly said that Farrow was acting suspicious with the property that she was holding. An officer reportedly went and took the property and located more contraband. The contraband was allegedly 16.4 grams of methamphetamine and 37.6 grams of Alprazolam including the packaging. Farrow was cleared by EMS and was placed into custody. Farrow allegedly began to smash her head against her car window several times but the officer was able to get her into the patrol unity with a wrist restraint. Farrow was transported to the jail and bond was set at $60,000.

• A Lockesburg, Ark. man, 32, was arrested Sunday 1:49 p.m. on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputies reportedly received a call about a possibly intoxicated driver and observed the vehicle failing to maintain a single lane by swerving in and out of lanes of traffic. A Deputy initiated their overhead lights and conducted a traffic stop. The man pulled over and the officer made contact. The deputy allegedly observed the man’s hands to be shaking. The man allegedly stated that he was trying to make it home and was very sleepy. The man reportedly denied a consent search of the vehicle and it’s contents. Deputies requested a K-9 unit who arrived and conducted a free air sniff for the odor of narcotics. The K-9 officer advised that he had observed a possible alert from the canine. Deputies conducted a probable cause search and allegedly located a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. The man was secured into handcuffs and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was not set.

• Cody Self, 48, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Monday 5:00 p.m. on a Hopkins County warrant for possession of a penalty group one controlled substance. Self was escorted to the Hopkins County Jail to be booked on the aforementioned charge. Bond was not set.

Alcohol related arrests

• A Sulphur Springs man, 25, was arrested Friday 8:06 p.m. on a charge of public intoxication. A Sulphur Springs officer were reportedly dispatched to Downtown Sulphur Springs to assist another officer with an intoxicated male subject. The officer could allegedly smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. The male was reportedly unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech. The square officer allegedly advised that he had heard complaints of the male dropping things and bumping into people. The officers reportedly believed the male to be a danger to himself or others and was placed into custody for transport to the jail. Once at the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s office, the male allegedly became aggressive with jail staff and was placed into the violent inmate holding cell. Bond was not set.

• A Sulphur Springs man, 37, was arrested Sunday 7:04 a.m. on a charge of public intoxication. Sulphur Springs officers reportedly located a male subject sleeping in his truck. Upon making contact, the officer allegedly observed a strong odor of alcohol coming from the male’s person and some vomit on the ground next to the truck. Using a translator app, the officer was able to give the man instructions and observed clues that allowed him to determine that the male was intoxicated. The man was placed into handcuffs and transported to the jail. Bond was not set.

• A Sulphur Springs man, 42, was arrested Monday 11:25 p.m. on a charge of public intoxication. Sulphur Springs officers reportedly responded to a residence in reference to a disturbance. Officers made contact with the man who was allegedly standing in the middle of the street. The officers reportedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person and observed him to have slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The officers reportedly believed that the male was intoxicated to a degree of being a danger to himself or others and taken into custody. The man was transported to the jail without incident. Bond was not set.

Warrants, transfers and other activity

• Whitney Armstrong, 20, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Friday 7:59 p.m. on a Hopkins County warrant for possession of a penalty group one controlled substance. Deputies reportedly conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in which Armstrong was the passenger. Deputies were allegedly aware of an active warrant for Armstrong’s arrest. Armstrong was taken into custody and transported to the jail without further incident. Bond was set at $10,000.

• A Sulphur Springs woman, 40, was arrested Friday 3:45 p.m. on a charge of walking on the wrong side of the roadway. The woman was placed into custody and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was not set.

• Paul Cash, 66, of Cumby was arrested Saturday 4:21 p.m. on a Hopkins County warrant for theft of property valued at greater than $2,500 and less than $30,000. Deputies were reportedly made aware of an active warrant for Cash. Deputies allegedly observed Cash in as vehicle at a location on FM 275 and conducted a traffic stop. Cash was taken into custody and secured into a patrol unit for transport to the jail. Bond was set at $5,000.

• An Irving man, 51, was arrested Saturday 3:55 p.m. on a Dallas county warrant for assault causes bodily injury and an on sight charge of unlawful carry of a weapon. A Cumby officer initiated a traffic stop on the man’s vehicle and during the investigation discovered that the man was in possession of a firearm on his person. The man was also allegedly in possession of a substance believed to be marijuana. After the investigation, the man was transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $2,000.

• A Caddo Mills man, 29, was arrested Sunday 7:20 a.m. on a Hopkins county warrant for theft of property in an amount between $100 to $750. Sulphur Springs officers reportedly conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the male. After identifying the man, the officers were allegedly advised of a warrant for the man’s arrest. Bond was set at $1,000.

• Raymond Requejo, 34, of Sulphur Springs, was arrested on a charge of assault or family violence by impeding breath or circulation. A Sulphur Springs officer responded to a location in reference to an assault. The officer reportedly determined that Requejo had allegedly assaulted a family member including impeding her ability to breathe. Requejo was arrested to prevent further violence and transported to the jail. Bond was set at $10,000.

• Joseph Keel, 35, of Sulphur Springs, was arrested Sunday 6:49 p.m. on a Missouri warrant for failure to appear on a charge of neglect of a child. Keel was the passenger in a vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt. Upon identifying Keel, the officer reportedly determined that there was an active warrant for Keel’s arrest. The warrant was confirmed and Keel was taken into custody for transport to the jail. Bond was not set.

• An Irving man, 23, was arrested Monday 8:52 p.m. on a charge of driving without a driver’s license. The man was reportedly observed by a Cumby Police officer traveling at a high rate of speed, 89 mph in a 75 mph zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who allegedly admitted to not having a driver’s license. The man was taken into custody without incident. Bond was not set.

• A Gilmer man, 33, was arrested Monday 9:21 p.m. on two Hopkins Count warrants for bail jumping and failure to appear on charges of criminal trespass and theft of property valued between $100 and $750. The male was reportedly identified while walking within the city limits of Winnsboro and secured by a Winnsboro Police officer. The officer allegedly confirmed the warrants and met with a Hopkins county officer to transfer custody of the arrested male. The Hopkins county officer transported the male to the Hopkins County Jail without incident. Bond was set at $10,000.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 855 non-emergency phone calls, 306 calls for service and 157 emergency calls. From 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Friday officers filed four offenses and conducted zero special patrols, zero funeral escorts and 129 traffic stops. 26 people were booked in and 18 people were released from the Hopkins County Jail which held 182 inmates as of 5:30 a.m Tuesday.
