The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and included:

Drug-related arrests

• Alfredo Vargas, Jr., 19, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Sunday 2:03 a.m. for possession of marijuana in an amount greater than four ounces but less than five pounds. A Hopkins county deputy was reportedly dispatched to Hwy 11 near CR 4717 for a call of a suspicious vehicle sitting at the entrance to a pasture with it’s light’s off. The deputy arrived at the location and allegedly observed the vehicle sitting stationary inside the entrance to a pasture on the south side of the roadway. The deputy reportedly initiated their overhead takedown lights for visibility and upon exiting the vehicle, allegedly observed the driver side front window roll down with a large cloud of smoke coming from inside. The deputy made contact with the driver, Vargas, and reportedly observed a baggie of suspected marijuana sitting in between his legs. Vargas allegedly handed the baggie of suspected marijuana to the deputy as Vargas and the other occupant exited the vehicle. The deputy conducted a probable cause search of Vargas’ person and did not locate any contraband. Vargas was asked to step to the rear of the vehicle while the deputy searched the passenger. No contraband was located on his person either. A search was conducted of the vehicle and the deputy allegedly located two other baggies of suspected marijuana as well as a grocery sack containing seven more baggies of suspected marijuana and other various paraphernalia including digital scales. Vargas advised that he believed the contraband to weigh around seven ounces. Vargas reportedly claimed ownership of all contraband and was secured in handcuffs. The passenger was released and took possession of the vehicle at Vargas’ request. Vargas was transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $5,000.

• Amber Kinchlow, 34, of Commerce, was arrested Saturday 10:03 p.m. on a charge of tampering with evidence. Kinchlow was reportedly stopped for speeding on SH 11. Upon making contact, the officer allegedly detected the strong odor of fresh marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search reportedly showed marijuana shake along with ash on the drivers side floorboard. After completing the search, the officer asked if Kinchlow had hidden any marijuana on her person. Kinchlow allegedly stated that she had not. The officer reportedly asked Kinchlow to open her mouth and allegedly observed Kinchlow’s tongue to be covered in partially chewed marijuana and her tongue had also turned green. Kinchlow reportedly admitted to eating the remainder of her marijuana cigarette as she was coming to a stop. Kinchlow was placed under arrest for tampering with evidence. The vehicle was released to her mother. Bond was set at $5,000.

• Lucas Morgan, 30, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Saturday 7:14 p.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group two controlled substance, and two charges of unlawful carry of a weapon. Morgan was reportedly stopped for a traffic violation and was observed to have an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. The deputy had Morgan hand him the container and step out of the vehicle. The deputy conducted a pat down search of Morgan for officer safety prior to conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle. During the pat down, Morgan allegedly admitted to having a pipe of the kind commonly used for smoking marijuana in his pocket. The deputy removed the pipe and detained Morgan in handcuffs. Another deputy arrived on scene to assist with the search. Deputes allegedly located a small rubber contained coating a wax like substance believed to be THC wax on Morgan’s person. Morgan reportedly admitted that the substance was THC wax. More than one item of drug paraphernalia, more than one open container, and two handguns were all allegedly located in the vehicle along with more than one loaded magazine. Morgan was reportedly advised of his rights and the evidence was photographed on scene then secured into a patrol unit. Morgan was transported to the jail and booked in without incident. Bond was set at $4,000.

Alcoholrelated arrests

• Alejandro Garcia-Cano, 31, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Sunday 1:28 a.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated, third offense. Garcia-Cano was reportedly stopped by Sulphur Springs police for a traffic violation. Garcia-Cano was the sole occupant and was observed to allegedly have slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. The officer also reportedly observed Garcia-Cano to be confused about his location as well. Allegedly, there was an open pack of beer within arm’s reach as well as two open beers in the cupholders. Garcia-Cano reportedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages. Garcia-Cano was administered standardized field sobriety tests and reportedly failed them. The arresting officer allegedly felt that Garcia-Cano was intoxicated to the point of being a danger to himself and others and placed him into custody. Upon later review of Garcia-Cano’s criminal history, it was observed that this was the third conviction for driving while intoxicated. Bond was set at $10,000.

Warrants, transfers and other activity

• A Sulphur Springs woman, 23, was arrested Friday 11:40 p.m. on a charge of criminal trespass. An officer with the Sulphur Springs Police Department reportedly responded to the Econolodge in reference to a criminal trespass. Officers allegedly confirmed that the woman had an active criminal trespass warning for the location and was reportedly on the property at the time that officers responded. The woman was taken into custody and transported to the jail without incident. No bond was set.

• Isaiah Bryant-Lacy, 24, of Sulphur Springs was being held at the Hunt Count Jail Friday 11:02 a.m. on two Hopkins County warrants for violation of probation on charges of manufacture or delivery of penalty group three and four controlled substances and money laundering in an amount between $2,500 and $30,000. Bryant-Lacy was transported to the Hopkins County jail without incident and booked on the aforementioned warrants. Bond was denied.

• Lacy Steele, 30, of Como was booked on additional charges Friday 4:50 p.m. after being served with two warrants for manufacture or delivery of a penalty group one controlled substance. A Hopkins County deputy was reportedly made aware of Steele being in custody in the jail and had the above warrants for her arrest. The deputy served the warrants and cleared from the jail without incident. Bond was set at $40,000.

• Seth Jumper, 42, of Como, was arrested Saturday 11:39 a.m. on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A Hopkins County deputy was reportedly dispatched to a call of a vehicle driving recklessly in the area of McBride Street in Como. Upon making contact with the occupants of a vehicle parked near the roadway, the occupants allegedly told the deputy that they had just been speaking with an individual at a residence nearby and hadn’t been driving recklessly. After clearing from the scene, the deputy was reportedly advised by Communications of a disturbance taking place outside of a residence on McBride Street. Communications advised that a vehicle left the area in route to the hospital in Sulphur Springs due to a weapon being used during the altercation and a victim was bleeding from the head. Deputies arrived on scene and made contact with Jumper and the witnesses on scene. Another deputy went to the hospital to make contact with the victim and an additional witness. Jumper and other witnesses allegedly told the deputes that the vehicle had been following them to the location and that Jumper had grabbed a pipe before walking to his residence to tell the individuals to leave. Jumper reportedly stated that a verbal argument ensued which then became physical and the victim was struck by the pipe. Deputes spoke with both parties and determined that Jumper had wielded the pipe prior to making contact with the driver of the vehicle, with intentions to use the weapon if a physical altercation occurred. EMS arrived on scene to evaluate Jumper in which Jumper refused medical treatment. Jumper was placed into custody and photographs were collected by deputies on scene and at the hospital. The pipe was recovered from where it was thrown by a witness on scene. Bond was set at $15,000.

• A Princeton woman, 55, was arrested Saturday 2:02 p.m. on a charge of theft valued at $100 to $750. The woman was reportedly seen by Walmart personnel leaving the last point of sale without paying for items. Subject was detained by Walmart asset protection until the officer arrived. Bond was set at $1,000.

• An Omaha, Texas man, 27, was arrested on a Cass County warrant for theft of property valued between $100 and $750. A Cumby police officer made contact with the man at the 112 mile marker of I30 and upon running the man’s ID through dispatch, reportedly discovered an active warrant. Dispatch allegedly confirmed the warrant and the man was taken into custody. Bond was set at $4,000.

• Larry Boyd, 45, of Sulphur Springs, was arrested Monday 7:15 p.m. on two warrants for possession of dangerous drugs. Boyd was stopped reportedly by an officer for a walking violation. A check through Communications allegedly revealed Boyd to have two outstanding active warrants for possession of dangerous drugs out of Missouri and Kansas. Dispatch reportedly advised that both warrants were confirmed and Boyd was taken into custody. Bond was not set.

• A Sulphur Springs man, 28, was arrested Monday 3:38 p.m. on a charge of assault causes bodily injury to a family member. Sulphur Springs police were dispatched to a location in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the arrested person in the front lobby of the motel. The man reportedly advised that his girlfriend had been trying to leave their room and began walking towards the staircase. The man allegedly stated that he went after her and she began to fall the down the stairs so he tried to catch her. While speaking with the girlfriend, she alleged that she was going outside to roll the windows up on her ca so that the inside wouldn’t get wet. The girlfriend claimed that the arrested person, her boyfriend, was mad at her for an unknown reason and followed her outside to the stairs before pushing her, causing her to fall. The girlfriend showed the officer an injury on her arm sustained in the fall on the stairs and stated that she wanted to pursue charges. The man was taken into custody and transported to the jail. Bond was set at $2,000.

• A Sulphur Springs woman, 24, was arrested Sunday 5:42 p.m. on a charge of assault class c, family violence. Sulphur Springs police responded to a call in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with the woman and her mother’s boyfriend. While in the officers presence, the woman allegedly attempted to strike her mother’s boyfriend. The arresting officer reportedly prevented the assault by grabbing the woman’s arm and placing her into handcuffs. The woman was transported to the jail without further incident. Bond was not set.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 779 non-emergency phone calls, 201 calls for service and 157 emergency calls. From 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Friday officers filed two offenses and conducted zero special patrols, two funeral escorts and 52 traffic stops. 17 people were booked in and 19 people were released from the Hopkins County Jail which held 188 inmates as of 5:30 a.m Tuesday.
