Once upon a time, there was a dragon who loved books! And, of course, where there is a dragon usually can be found a knight and some sword play! Sulphur Springs Library brought all of this to life over the weekend for the kickoff of the Sulphur Springs Public Library's Summer Reading Program.

Starting indoors at 9 a.m. June 3, when the doorway to the Storytime Room in the Children's Section opened, youngsters and their parents were immersed in a wonderland of storybook characters. It revealed a storybook castle, which young and old alike discovered, as they followed the dragon tail to the newly designed space filled with books, dragon and castle features normally seen only in Disney movies.

One of the highlights was a colorful reading and character enactment by 'Captain Grumpypants,” a ship's pirate who also loves books. Mid-morning, visitors watched the interesting sword play demonstrations by two knights, enjoyed a petting zoo on the lawn outside the library along with a free hot dog lunch.

As summer begins, the community is invited to take advantage of the many fun activities planned at Sulphur Springs Public Library including Storytime on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m., and family game nights Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. Other special guests scheduled to visit are the James Wand's Magic Show, Wildlife On The Move, Will Parker Music, and the Brett Roberts Bubble Show.

There is something for everyone, every day at the library. Get the full summer calendar at www.sslibrary. org, or stop by the library at 611 North Davis St. to pick up a printed calendar of events through July 20. Librarian Hope Cain also suggests calling at 903-8854926 for details.
