All raises total over $2 million

Board approves raises for non-teacher personnel

The Sulphur Springs Independent School District Board of Trustees met in a special session Thursday and approved raises for non-instructional staff. Teachers received a raise earlier this summer as mandated by Texas house bill 3 (HB3).

The trustees also discussed the budget for the upcoming school year which will be approved at the regular August board meeting. The current unfinalized 2019-2020 budget is based on 2018-2019 certified tax revenue values. The new certified values are expected to be available July 25 and will be plugged into the 2019-2020 budget.

“We have every reason to believe we’ll get the estimated revenue values or better,” said Superintendent Mike Lamb.

Under HB3, SSISD gained between $4.1 and $4.3 million in additional state funding.

During executive session, the board decided to give raises for of roughly 1.5% to 3% on average. Paraprofessionals will receive a $15 per day increase.

• Ashley Rodriguez – Special education aide, SS Elementary

Personnel changes include:

• Courtney Anglin – High school special education teacher, will be Special education/504 coordinator, High School

• Kathy Wright – Math teacher, Middle School, will be DAEP math teacher, Austin Academic Center

• Maria Garcia-Hidalgo, Purchasing clerk, Admin. Bldg., will be Special education aide, High School

The next regular meeting of the SSISD Board of Trustees will be Monday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. in the board meeting room at the administration building on Connally Street.
