Four additional COVID-19 cases were reported this week in Sulphur Springs Independent School District, one announced Wednesday and three Thursday morning.

A bus driver was confirmed to have COVID-19, a statement from the school district read Wednesday. The driver was on a bus the week of Sept. 1.

A Sulphur Springs High School student was announced Thursday morning to test positive for COVID-19 and was at the high school within the last week.

Also announced Thursday morning are a student at Travis Primary and a teacher at Sulphur Springs Elementary School. Both were in attendance at their respective schools within the last week.

These cases are in addition to SSISD’s notification Friday that two students at Bowie Primary were confirmed with COVID-19 and one student at Sulphur Springs High School. Students were on their respective campuses Sept. 1-4.

This brings the number of cases of COVID-19 at SSISD to two adults and five students for a total of seven cases.

Due to privacy requirements, SSISD will not be releasing the names of the individuals or details that may identify students, the district stated in multiple releases.

SSISD stated district and local health departments have begun an investigation and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the infected individuals. All students and staff who came into close contact will be directly notified as soon as possible, the release read.

Those who were in close contact will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread, the district’s release read.

If anyone associated with SSISD begins experiencing any symptoms, the district encourages contacting a physician. The schools also request that anyone who received a lab-confirmed positive test for COVID-19 to inform the school immediately.
