Two men, a 24-year-old Gilmer man and a 31-year-old Pittsburg man, were arrested on State Highway 11 east at County Road 2401 after Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputies allegedly received notice of expired registration from August 2018 on the Volkswagen Passat and pulled them over.

In the arrest report, the deputy stated that he allegedly notice the driver’s hands shaking and asked “if there was anything illegal” in the car. The deputy reported that the driver “admitted a pipe of the kind commonly used to smoke marijuana was located in the driver door. The driver retrieved the marijuana pipe” and released it to the deputy, he wrote.

Both the driver and passenger were allegedly asked to get out of the car so the deputy could perform a probable cause search, during which, the deputy reported, he “located two, small, clear baggies” in the driver’s front, right pocket. One of them allegedly contained a crystal-like residue.

In the vehicle, the deputy reported finding a “brown zipper bag in the right, front floor containing a pipe of the kind commonly used to smoke methamphetamine and a small, clear baggie containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine,” he wrote. According to the report, both the driver and passenger denied ownership of the items found.

Both parties were arrested on charges of possession, more than 1 gram and less than 4 grams.

At book-in, the deputy reported the meth weight at 1.643 grams, including the packaging.
