A total of 10 teams served up a feast of dutch oven- baked dishes on Saturday at the 2022 John Chester Dutch Oven Cook Off.
Eager guests awaited the taste-testing portion — a smorgasbord of smothered pork steaks, Cowboy potatoes, pinto beans, bourbon-glazed carrots, sweet potato casserole, garlic chicken, tomato cobbler, pecan pie and blueberry and blackberry cobbler. Hungry yet?
On the sunniest and coolest day of the year — this side of the drought — attendees enjoyed the historic sights of Heritage Park among the many historical landmarks, such as the Pate Brothers Scale House and Grist Mill, the St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church and more.
Members of the Hopkins County Historical Society greeted guests, identified by 19th century clothing, and entertained the history of Heritage Park.
Winners of the Dutch Oven Cook Off were announced around lunch time. They are as follows: Gaery Don Almond received “Highest Score Overall,” Margie Ford and Teresa Reser won “Second Highest Overall,” Santiago and Emily Williams received “Third Highest Overall,” Paul and Melinda Hitt won “Best Meat,” David and Lainie Wilhite received “Best Vegetable,” Richard Watkins received “Best Bread” and Donnie and Katie Martin won “Best Dessert.”
