There was no report last week because my lovely wife and I were enjoying Mardi Gras in New Orleans. And, wow, what an experience! So, we will do a little catch-up this week. The team standings reported below are current as of Feb. 14. The various leagues divide the season into quarters or halves. The standings reported below reflect the current marks, not the overall season. Honors scores are reported for the previous two sessions for each league.

Consider mental aspects to improve your bowling

Body
Hall of Fame New York Yankees catcher and philosopher Yogi Berra said, “Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical.” I think we can all agree there are mental aspects, perhaps subconscious, that are important in bowling also. I believe bowlers can use mental imagery and positive visualization to increase scoring.

Mi Vida Loca

When I was a kid, I wasn't the brightest. One time I was waiting for my big brother Josue to get out of the bathroom. I was patiently waiting at the door, and I started looking around on the floor. For some reason, a circular pill caught my attention. I leaned over and held it in my hand. I was inspecting it to pass the time while Josue was still in the bathroom. I decided to put the pill up my nose. I was like seven or eight, maybe younger? I slowly started putting it up my nose as a joke, but when I stopped pushing it and was ready to take it out, it didn't go according to plan.

Bowlers are people who have talent to spare

This is certainly a joyous time of the year for most of us, but admittedly it can be stressful. So go bowling during the holidays and let it be stress relief. While bowling, think about these gems (my apologies in advance): In bowling you can get three strikes and you’re not out. Old bowlers never die, they just end up in the gutter. Some of us are infected with “E-Bowla.” What happens in the gutter stays in the gutter. Bowlers do it in alleys — oh, get your mind out of the gutter! Bowling is the only sport where eating might be involved. Being called a pinhead is not necessarily an insult. And, from bowling legend Don Carter, “One advantage bowling has over golf is that you seldom lose a bowling ball.”

I’ve fallen ill

If you couldn’t tell by the title, college has done me in once more — this time, with a proper diagnosis from someone other than a teladoc. This time, I’ve contracted the flu and COVID.
