A Percheron horse “Sarge,” belonging to Melissa Beezley Harris, was present at Monday morning’s Memorial Day services conducted by the Hopkins County Marine Corps League at Celebration Plaza in Sulphur Springs. With the exception of the bridle, Sarge wore authentic World War II tack and soldier’s gear. The ceremonies honor those service men and woman who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country. A proclamation was read by Bob Kerr from President Donald Trump, and the American flag was lowered to half-staff. Harris was presented with a certificate of merit for the patriotic work that she does with Sarge, honoring the fallen soldiers, and was made an honorary member of the Marine Corps League.

County jail to house federal inmates

Federal inmates will be housed at the Hopkins County jail per a agreement between the county and the U.S. Marshal Service approved by the commissioners court at their regular meeting Tuesday morning.
