Trojans disarm Pirates to improve to 3-1

Sept. 23, 2007 - SIMMS - The Cumby Trojans improved to 3-1 on the year with a 30-12 win over the Simms Bowie Pirates during homecoming festivities Friday night.
The Trojans had a touchdown completion from Brixx Hawthorne to Kris Stanford for 31 yards in the first quarter. Stanford also had a two-point conversion and led the team with four catches for 97 yards and one touchdown.
Cumby held a 16-12 lead at the intermission as Nathan Dunnihoo had a 6-yard touchdown catch from Hawthorne in the first quarter. Brian Clem grabbed the two-point conversion from Hawthorne for the 12-0 lead.
Dunnihoo scored his fifth rushing touchdown of the season in the third quarter as Cumby held a 24-12 lead with 5:39 remaining. Dunnihoo had 10 carries for 30 yards and one TD.
In the fourth quarter, Hawthorne capped off the scoring with a 65-yard scamper and finished with eight carries for 119 yards. He also threw for 159 yards on 11-of-20 passing with two interceptions.
Defensively, the Trojans allowed 372 yards of offense - 218 rushing, 154 passing - and had four take-aways on interceptions by Hawthorne and Stanford and fumble recoveries by Jason Wallace and Stanford.
The Trojans return home to face Maud, who defeated Foreman, Ark., 64-8, on Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
