Both local Dixie teams in World Series quarterfinals

July 24, 2007 - Both Hopkins County teams playing in their respective Dixie Softball World Series have advanced to their tournament quarterfinals today.
The Hopkins County Angels are unbeaten at 2-0 after receiving a bye Monday in their tournament being played in Denison.
The Angels, coached by Mike Moore, Sharon Womack and Jamie Harris, defeated Mena, Ark., 12-1, in the tournament opener on Saturday, then beat Belleville, Fla., 11-4, on Sunday in the second round.
They are scheduled to play the winner between Alexandria, La. and Sand Mountain, Ala. at 6 p.m. today in the quarterfinals. If they win, Hopkins County will then advance to the tournament semifinals on Wednesday.
The local Darlings team, playing in West Stanly, N.C., is 2-1 after three games and will take on Ripley, Tenn. in an elimination game today. The two teams met in the second round, and Hopkins County came out with a 12-9 victory. In the tournament opener, the local team beat Darlington, S.C., 17-14, but were upended by Pineville, La., 10-0, in the third round.
If Hopkins County wins, they will take on the loser between two unbeaten teams, Louisiana and Hartselle, Ala., tomorrow. The local team is coached by Rowdy Crowson.
