Oct. 16, 2004 - WINNSBORO - Quinlan Ford overcame a 14-point, first-quarter deficit to take a 28-20 win over the Winnsboro Red Raiders Friday night in a key District 11-3A matchup. After a bye last week, the Raiders fell in their district opener to 4-3 overall, 0-1 in 11-3A. The Panthers (4-3 overall), are the only 2-0 team in the district and will have a bye next week. Ford senior running back Tony Amico scored two touchdowns in the comeback victory, including the game-clincher in the fourth quarter, and finished with 121 yards rushing. Winnsboro converted a fourth-and-seven fake punt en route to its first score and then capitalized on a Quinlan fumble for a 14-0 first period lead. Winnsboro senior quarterback Josh Neiswander connected with classmate B.J. Hawkins from 28 and 36 yards out for the first two TDs, and Hawkins scored on a 48-yard run in the third period as Winnsboro drew to within 21-20. Ford ran up 365 yards, all on the ground, while Winnsboro countered with 267 yards passing from Neiswander, who completed 12-of-21 passes without an interception. Hawkins led the Raiders rushing (2-42) and receiving (5-119).
