Bella and Edward: Chick lit's odd couple

About a month ago, I judged the Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant. Almost all the contestants listed the "Twilight" series as their favorite books and they were more than willing to discuss the reasons for liking it during the interview process.

Even Better

Beating Paris last week was nice, but taking apart Whitehouse by a 52-33 score was even nicer. Has a transfer senior made any more of an impact than Ryan Young in his first two games with the Wildcats? He rushed for 200 yards, give or take, and again proved to be the missing link for the SS offense that got another big game from Ty-riffic, Jace Jackson and Rashad Hall.

Wildcats 90-10

That wasn't the score of tonight's game. It was the positive percentage and negative percentage of how the Wildcats played in their 48-20 victory over Paris.
Ryan Young made a splash in his Wildcat debut, rushing for 148 yards on just 12 carries, catching 4 passes for 50 more yards and scoring a TD each way -- and he didn't play after the Wildcats' first possession of the second half.

Are you ready for some football?

The time is now. The Wildcats will get a taste of Paris tonight, and it won't be the same team Sulphur Springs saw last year.
The last few years, Paris has played much better at the beginning of the season than toward the end, and they will be sky-high for tonight's game.

Episode 5: Heat-Seeking Missiles, Gen. Petraeus and Chuck Norris

Once again, Team Jedi was moving forward under the cover of darkness. Our Chinook twin-rotor helicopter suddenly deviated from its course into a steep left bank. We all could see the flares being jettisoned from the aircraft to protect us from the shoulder-fired missile homing in on the massive heat signature generated by the big turbines on the Chinook. The flares lit up the night sky.

Wildcats look better

The Wildcats looked better against Terrell than they did the previous week against Greenville, especially the defense which didn't let Terrell in the end zone except for the goal line plays. But, the Wildcats still need to get more physical, on offense and defense, as the season goes along. And they probably will.

New photos; C-130 and an Eastern toilet

Here are 2 more photos for you. The first is the plane ride from Kuwait into Baghdad International Airport (BIAP). The second is an Eastern toilet for those who have not seen them. Very interesting to say the least. I'm glad I could pass such culture on.

Time to Show Up

The Wildcats didn't look as inconsistent on film as they did on the field last Saturday in their opening scrimmage against Greenville, but they still weren't as crisp as they needed to be. That should change on Friday against Terrell.

Short 5 Years

It was five years ago this month that I was hired as sports editor for the News-Telegram in a coming-home of sorts. Since I played for the Wildcats 20-something years ago and had children in school, it was for me a perfect fit.
